Nadia Ouhib
Much to her dismay, Nadia's mother, Nancy, withdrew her from ballet class at the young age of 6 after two grueling years of gracelessness. Nadia happily traded in her leotards and slippers for a pair of soccer cleats and shorts to enjoy her father, Zoubir’s, passion—soccer. She excelled as a soccer player, traveling all over the United States as a left midfielder on one of the country's top teams through her high school years. It was not until two years into college at Boston University that Nadia decided to try something new. She was inspired by the athleticism and explosive power demonstrated by salseras, and developed an interest in learning salsa. She began to take classes with Rumba Y Timbal in 2008 for fun, and was asked within months to join the company's student team. Although she was still simply enjoying herself in the studio, Nadia began to develop a vested interest in her dancing because of how natural it seemed to feel. Her rapid growth under Roberto and Vanessa's direction promoted her to the semi-professional team in 2009, and later the same year she earned her spot in the Professional Company. She is thankful and proud to be a product of their teaching.
Because of her new found love for dance, she is also currently studying ballet. Nadia has performed at several congresses including Boston, New York, Summer Salsa Festival in Laval, Dallas and Connecticut where she continues to learn and be inspired. Because of Nadia's passion for the dance and the salsa community, she founded the Boston Salsa University, a student group at Boston University that shares the fun of salsa with the student body. Outside of the studio, Nadia studies Biomedical Engineering in Boston University's College of Engineering and enjoys volunteering with children and animals when time permits.
