As many of you know Roberto Figueroa, the director of Rumba Y Timbal was born and raised in El Salvador. This September 15th will mark the 190th anniversary of El Salvador's independence from Spain. Independence day is one of the most important days for Salvadorians. In 1821 the declaration of independence was signed by important government people such as Manuel Jose Arce, Jose Simeon Canas and Jose Matias Delgado. They are the ones who gave the first shout of independence on November 5 of 1811 in San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador. El Salvador finally claimed its freedom after the Central American Independence Act was signed on September 15, 1821 ending the 300 years of Spanish rule. In 1823 Delgado was elected president of the constituent assembly. Because that is so important, every September 15th there is a big celebration that takes place all around El Salvador.
